If only it was as simple as lights, camera, action. BABYLON tracks the respective rises, stumbles, and everything in between of multiple members of Hollywood in the late 1920’s as the film industry and each subject’s various stories transition from silent pictures to those with sound (or as they were often so lovingly called “talkies”). The film itself is an exercise in excess and decadence, its over the top, grandiose tendencies paralleling the era of the roaring 20’s and the subsequent period of turmoil. BABYLON serves as a jarring reminder to the dangers presented by overconsumption and growth without regard for what industry infrastructure already exists and the human cost of making a picture. The show will go on whether we like it or not. Bask in all the opulence and grandeur that BABYLON has to offer in the premier film format: 70MM celluloid!
