Ranked as the greatest comedy of all time by a running list of accredited 12 year olds for the past 50 years, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a loose adaptation of King Arthur’s quest for immortality through seeking the Holy Grail. Released in 1975, it is Monty Python’s second theatrical release, and first to follow the internationally revered TV program, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974. The movie is both a wonderful primer, and a deep cut representation of the silly spoofs, satire and parody the comedy troupe was iconic for. To all the lovers of Monty Python who have seen this movie, we welcome you. And to those who haven’t been initiated, we say “Ni!!! …but thank you for the shrubbery.”
King Arthur, accompanied by his squire, recruits his Knights of the Round Table, including Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot and Sir Galahad the Pure. On the way, Arthur battles the Black Knight who, despite having had all his limbs chopped off, insists he can still fight. They reach Camelot, but Arthur decides not to enter, as "it is a silly place".
