Something is rotten in bucolic Lumberton, North Carolina—as college student Jeffrey (Kyle MacLachlan) discovers when he returns home and discovers a severed ear in a vacant lot. So begins one of the most frightening and unsettling mysteries in American cinema, a vision of the festering evil hiding just beneath the surface of quaint suburban life. With themes of innocence and experience that would reappear in much of Lynch’s later work, BLUE VELVET is a terrifying trip down the rabbit hole that boasts some of the director’s most viscerally overwhelming setpieces.

The discovery of a severed human ear found in a field leads a young man on an investigation related to a beautiful, mysterious nightclub singer and a group of psychopathic criminals who have kidnapped her child.
