The grand finale of DAVID LYNCH: Moving Through Time. Join us for an immersive live concert and video experience beginning with a visual mixtape of Lynch’s contributions to music, film and television, and building to a live performance drawing from the rich musical world of Lynch’s filmography. You’ll hear music from Twin Peaks, Fire Walk with Me, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, and more.

There are few filmmakers that have left a such a mark on the American music scene as David Lynch. Music is an essential part of the  language of Lynch’s films – drones, white noise, needle drops of eerie 50’s pop classics, the string synth melodies of Angelo Badalamenti, and original songs often with lyrics penned by Lynch himself. 

The evening will consist of performances of David Lynch’s music, dovetailing with rare videos, behind the scenes studio footage, and other hidden gems. Led by dark balladeer Daniel Knox and esoteric songsmith Alec Watson on the Heights Wurlitzer Organ, expect shockingly faithful renditions alongside dastardly re-imaginings. Joining them is an all-star band of twin cities musicians, including Ari Wegley, Maddy Heide, Dave Power, and Cody McKinney.

The heart of the evening’s music is the classic dream-pop album Floating into the Night. A collaboration between singer Julee Cruise, David Lynch, and Angelo Badalamenti, the album has become a cult sensation since its 1989 release. Its second track “Falling” was repurposed by Lynch as the beloved Twin Peaks theme song. Much of the rest of the album appeared in Twin Peaks, showcasing Lynch’s unique intuitive method of ideation and letting creative worlds intermingle.

Daniel Knox is an American songwriter, singer, and film programmer based in Porto, Portugal. His unique brand of Midwestern song has captivated listeners for years, ranging from minimal piano sketches with whispery vocals to broad, cinematic cabaret ballads. Always deft with the pen, Knox’s songs contain equal parts wit and emotional directness – a mixed drink stiff enough to affect even the hardest heart. Knox also runs Moving Through Time, a freely accessible chronological guide to the works of David Lynch.

Alec Watson is a Minneapolis-based songwriter, singer, and instrumentalist. His work approaches the Great American Songbook with quiet reverence, pulling in harmony and melody inspired by the working Tin Pan Alley songwriter, the dark murmuring of haunted crooners, half-dreamed barbershop quartets, and the grand production of Golden Age Pop. Watson is a House Organist at the Heights Theater, performing on Saturday afternoons and as a part of the theater’s Sunday Silents series.
